Strimmers with Blades not Line
While a lawnmower will do the majority of your lawn with little effort, they often don’t leave the clean finish around the edges and they can’t help with bushes…and this is where strimmers have made a name in recent years. However, we still don’t feel as though enough is known about these brilliant tools. For example, you might think that they come with string lines and that this is the only option. As you’ve probably guessed from the title of this guide, this isn’t the case at all.
That’s right, you will also find blade strimmers on the market. Although they don’t have the same popularity as line or cordless string strimmers, they have a number of benefits. Firstly, compared to plastic lines, blades are much tougher and therefore more durable. If you’ve used a line strimmer, you’ll know that the plastic can break, and this leads to constantly feeding new lines through. With blades, this simply isn’t a problem.
With this, it doesn’t require as many checks and you can trim down the edges of your garden and shape bushes with peace of mind. Thanks to the stronger material, this also makes cutting easier. Especially with thick grass, damp grass, or tough foliage, the blade should cut right through with no issues.
With a blade strimmer, you’re able to get it from the shed, complete your gardening work, and put it back again with no messing around and no wasting time (leaving you more time to enjoy your weekend!).
Now we understand the benefits of choosing a blade, here’s five products you might like!
Terratek Cordless Bladed Strimmer
- Lightweight (under 2kg)
- 20v battery
- Transforms from edger to trimmer
- Adjustable height
- Large cutting diameter
- Easy-snap replacement blades
Firstly, we have an electric product with no cords, no lines, and no headaches. With the 20v Max battery, it charges in under five hours and will last for around 40 minutes. Thanks to a simple turn of the shaft, you can also transform the product from an edger to a trimmer (you don’t even need any tools!). For those who are slightly taller than the average, you’ll be glad to know that the height adjusts from 95cm up to 115cm.
Designed especially for weeds and other unwanted plants, the cutting diameter sits at 25cm and we also like the quick-change blade replacement system. Those who have used lines will know all about the frustration that comes with the fiddly wire spools, but there’s no such issue with this Terratek cordless strimmer. Instead, the nylon blades snap into place within seconds.
When ordering, the package will arrive with everything you need including the battery and the charger. What’s more, the trimmer head adjusts 180 degrees and this adjustable head has proven a popular feature for many. If you own other Terratek products, the same battery fits all their cordless garden tools, so it might be worth choosing this one over the others in this list.
Finally, we also like that the manufacturer offers a warranty of two years. If something goes wrong with the strimmer’s functioning or if the design is faulty, simply contact Terratek and they should help with a replacement or refund.

Bosch Strimmer AFS 23-37
- Adjustable handle and belt
- Both blade and line
- Simple change between the two cutting systems
- 950W motor
- Easy to store
- 23cm to 37cm cutting radius
Interestingly, our second recommendation uses both a line and a blade. How does this work? Well, there’s an interchangeable head. For those who want the benefits of both, this is the perfect solution. Let’s say you have a large garden with all sorts of gardening challenges, this Bosch strimmer is adaptable and will help with them all. Without even removing the guard, you can switch between blade and line depending on the task at hand.
With the adjustable handle and belt, this aids balance. While some products feel clunky and walking around the garden becomes a chore, Bosch has considered the end user, and this is clear to see. Even when using the strimmer for long periods, you shouldn’t have an issue with weight or balance. Whether you’re short, tall, old, or young, you should find that these adjustable features allow for comfort when using the tool.
Although this product isn’t cordless, it does have a powerful 950W motor which hopefully makes up for being plugged into the mains. While the line allows for a cutting radius of 37cm, the blade is slightly smaller at 23cm. Also, the product is easy to store away thanks to the clever design.
Just as we saw with the previous suggestion, the manufacturer believes in their product and Bosch offer a two-year warranty.

VonHaus Cordless Grass Trimmer with 20V MAX Battery
- 20v Max battery
- 180-degree adjustable head
- Cutting path of 25cm
- Lightweight and clever design
- Quick charging system
Next up, we have a brilliant effort from VonHaus and one of the reasons we like it so much is because it fits into their fantastic garden tool range. Just as we saw with Terratek, one battery fits several products including the hedge trimmer. Rather than having batteries clogging up the shed, you only need one. While talking about the battery, we should note that it takes just one hour to charge the trimmer. For those living in residential areas, the low vibration and noise makes it ideal.
Elsewhere, the nylon blade is powerful and made all the more effective by the 180-degree adjustable trimmer head. With the telescopic handle, those out-of-reach areas also seem closer than ever. In terms of the overall design, this product has received lots of positive reviews online and it’s not hard to see why. Not only is it lightweight, the handle has a soft rubber grip and the whole design is ergonomic for optimum performance.
Just as we’ve seen with other manufacturers, VonHaus also offer a two-year warranty which provides us with that extra peace of mind.

Einhell GE-CT 18 Li Solo Power X-Change 18V Cordless Lithium Grass Trimmer
- 20 plastic blades
- Part of the X-Change battery system from Einhell
- 24cm cutting circle
- 90-degree rotational motor head
- Up to 35cm extra with the telescopic handle
If you don’t already have an Einhell product from this range, we should note that this trimmer won’t come with the required battery and charger. However, as we’ve seen before, you only need to buy this once (it works with a full range of products).
As for the design, we love the rotational motor head because it allows users to get into those hard-to-reach spots. Also, the motor head itself has five different settings for tilting, so this model should be good enough for gardens of all shapes and sizes. Additionally, we like the addition of a flower guard, and the adjustable telescopic handle is always a welcome bonus.
Integrated into a second handle, you also have a compartment for 20 plastic blades (which all come with the product). For those with a slightly larger garden, the handle is soft, and this is a feature we often forget to consider. With a soft handle, your hands shouldn’t ache or experience pain after long gardening sessions.
Finally, the battery is 18v, the whole thing weighs a little over 2kg, it has a cutting speed of 8,500rpm, and the cutting width comes in at 24cm.

Ryobi RBC1226I Electric 2-in-1 Brush Cutter
- 1200W motor
- 2-in-1design with a grass trimmer spool and a brush cutter blade
- Plenty of ‘Expand-it’ attachments
- Compatible with SmartTool attachments
To bring our list of recommendations to a close, we want to suggest this Ryobi product. Although slightly more expensive than others, it offers a double function. On the one hand, the grass trimmer spool uses a line. On the other, you’ll have a powerful brush cutter blade. Whatever task lays ahead, you’ll always have the right help, and this is a huge advantage. Once you couple this with a powerful 1200W motor, you shouldn’t even have problems with wet or long grass.
This product really does offer something for everyone, and this continues with the Expand-it and SmartTool attachments. Furthermore, you always get the best performance because the powerhead will actually optimise depending on the workload. Compared to other motors, the SmartTool technology allows for more rotational speed. Meanwhile, you can change between attachments within seconds thanks to the quick-release system.
With all the different adjustments, attachments, and other features, Ryobi really allows for a tailored experience. Rather than making do with something not quite up to the task, you can adjust the product to your needs. Fortunately, they also provide a two-year warranty and have a superb customer support team should anything happen.
